About Primecare
A cardiology practice built
around continuity of care.
Primecare is a hospital-based cardiology and internal medicine practice at The Nairobi Hospital, founded in November 2009 by Dr. Martin Wanyoike. Today we see over 10,000 patients every year across two Nairobi locations.
Our story
Fifteen years of cardiac care in Nairobi.
The short version of how Primecare came to be the practice it is today.
- 012009
The clinic opens at Anderson Centre
Dr. Martin Wanyoike, a Consultant Physician and Interventional Cardiologist with over 35 years of clinical experience, opens Primecare as a hospital-based cardiology and internal medicine practice inside The Nairobi Hospital.
- 022012
Diagnostic capability expands
Investment in three two-dimensional echocardiogram machines with colour Doppler, 24-hour Holter monitors, ambulatory BP monitors, and an exercise stress test treadmill facility. Most diagnostics are delivered same-visit.
- 032016
Interventional programme begins
Coronary angiography, angioplasty and stenting, and single- and dual-chamber pacemaker implants become part of the practice, delivered at The Nairobi Hospital Catheterisation Laboratory. CRT-D and ICD devices follow.
- 042020
Inpatient cover formalised
The clinic takes on formal responsibility for cardiology cover of general ward, ICU, and HDU patients at The Nairobi Hospital, a full continuum of care from outpatient consultation through inpatient management.
- 05Today
Over 10,000 patients seen every year
Primecare now serves patients across Nairobi and East Africa from the Anderson Centre main clinic and a second location at Galleria Business Park. Same team, same standard.
How we practice
Three things we do differently.
- 01
Same cardiologist, every visit.
You see the same named specialist across appointments. Continuity of care is the point. A cardiologist who knows your history makes better decisions than one meeting you fresh.
- 02
Diagnostics delivered same-visit.
Echo, ECG, Holter fitting, and stress testing happen on-site during your appointment where clinically appropriate. Fewer trips, faster answers.
- 03
Full continuum of cardiac care.
From outpatient consultation through interventional cardiology and inpatient cover at The Nairobi Hospital, the same team follows you through the whole pathway.
